The Eastern Highlands Province is a rugged region with diverse flora and fauna, ideal for high-quality coffee cultivation. Coffee has thrived here since the late 19th century, but challenges like poor infrastructure and economic instability have hindered specialty coffee growth. Smallholder farmers in remote villages rely on coffee as their main cash crop but face difficulties accessing quality equipment and sorting facilities.

Maureen Ken founded Lass Malo Coffee (LMC) in 2015 to improve accessibility and quality support for farmers. LMC helps smallholders sell coffee at better prices, improving livelihoods and coffee quality. Through careful farm management, hand-picking, and improved post-harvest practices, farmers produce high-quality coffee. LMC’s expanded facilities, including a new grading system, continue to support the region’s growth, promising a brighter future for local farmers.
